Research interests:
My research focuses on oceanic phytoplankton, community composition, and associated carbon fluxes over a broad range of timescales in the world’s open oceans and in several regions of particular biogeochemical interest. For this purpose I am particularly interested in utilizing and developing new approaches based on remote and in situ biological and optical measurements. These include primarily HPLC biomarker pigments, remote sensing of ocean color, inherent and apparent optical properties, bio-optical profiling floats.
